Thomas L. Hart

Tom Hart is a retired professor who was fortunate to travel in Europe many times. He and his wife first went on a 3 week mainly Eurail Pass, starting in Athens and ending in Brussels.  We have mainly traveled from mid-May to early June and one time in October. One May and June our 20 year old son drove us fast around Europe for nearly 3 weeks. These guides were developed over many years to help other travelers have great experiences similar to ours.

Some examples of what we have learned are:

  1. Be careful of pickpockets – wear a special holder around you neck for passports, credit cards, cash and other valuables.
  2. Watch out for gypsies in and around train stations.
  3. Be aware that in Europe they are using credit cards with chips and we in the U.S. aren’t yet.
  4. Many stores are closed on Sundays.
  5. Many filling stations are closed on Sundays.
  6. Don’t trust the maps around the train station in Rome.  The street in front runs at an angle, not straight.
  7. If you take the Ferry for the Eurail Pass from Athens to Italy, use the airplane seats rather than paying for an expensive room.
  8. Take advantage of the special day passes for transportation and museums in the large cities.
